For a frequent traveler, the trusted traveler programs are heaven-sent. Global Entry and TSA Pre-Check have been instrumental in reducing time wasted standing in security lines at airports. If you have not yet signed up for either program, you should consider joining. The most common question travelers ask is: what is the difference between these two programs? In other words, how do Global Entry and TSA Pre-Check differ? Let's take a look.
Global Entry
Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection program that allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers to skip the usual customs line (or in some cases, even avoid the airport altogether) and proceed directly to their flights at certain airports. Global Entry allows you to use self-service kiosks when entering the United States at participating airports instead of waiting in long lines at passport control; however, it does not guarantee any reduction in wait times at customs inspection when departing from a foreign country.

TSA PreCheck
The TSA PreCheck program allows expedited screening for low-risk domestic travelers at more than 160 of the nation's busiest airports. Members use a separate lane dedicated to TSA PreCheck® lanes at security checkpoints and enjoy shorter wait times because they don't have to remove shoes, belts, or light jackets before screening begins. They can keep their laptops in cases and leave liquids in carry-on bags as they move through the line more quickly than other passengers.
Global Entry and TSA PreCheck
Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, global entry interviews, and low-risk international travelers upon arrival in the United States at select airports by allowing them to use automated kiosks instead of waiting in a customs line where each traveler must answer questions from a CBP officer individually before proceeding through passport control.
Global Entry members also enjoy access to TSA Pre-Check. This program allows travelers who have been prescreened by CBP to move through security without removing their shoes, light outerwear, and laptop from their carry-on bag or taking off light jackets
